Does human nature really exist?

It sounds like the classic question of genetics vs. environment. I think one affects the other. Our 'nature', in my opinion, is to be an adaptable, intelligent, but fearful little creature. And it's those instinctual animal characteristics that cause us to create a dysfunctional society or environment.
