AP English help: Old Man and the Sea?

I am trying to argue that the power of the Old Man and the Sea comes from its realism, and that the three most important stylistic elements in creating this realism are imagery, simple syntax, and concrete language and diction. I've got the others down, but how can I argue that simple syntax establishes a feeling of realism in the novella? Please and thank you in advance.
