The cause of social isolation; a case of excessive individuality, or a deficit of social skills?

I believe more younger people have this problem than many people realize or even acknowledge. In my life I've met two people like this and even dated one for about 2 years. I was like this and sometimes fall into periods when I still am. For me the key was to find something I really loved (horse racing, the track, bars, casinos), and I seemed to get along well with those people that seemed to frequent those places. You won't find like-minded people in places you don't absolutely enjoy (I mean, you might... everyone hates high school, everyone like us hates high school anyway), and you probably won't have mental connections with people that aren't like-minded to yourself. Judging from your dialogue, you're very mature and well-grounded for your age and probably won't find long-lasting mental connections until late college, or until you can go out and expose yourself to situations with much older people in them. There's not much more I can tell you - individuality, intellectuality... it's lonely up there.
